Ant and Dec to Reboot Children’s Drama in Byker Grove

The children’s show, which took place in Newcastle and aired on the BBC from 1989 to 2006, followed the exploits of the members of the titular youth club.

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly became well-known because to their role as PJ and Duncan.

They are “beyond excited” to be executive producers on the new series.

To “engage with a new generation of teenagers navigating the different challenges faced by young adults today,” production company Fulwell 73 said, “the show, simply titled Byker,” will air during primetime.

It is unknown whether or when filming will commence for the show, which established the careers of Donna Air, Jill Halfpenny, Andrew Hayden-Smith, and Charlie Hunnam, on the BBC.

The North East has a lot of ability in front of and behind the camera, and Donnelly said this will “help shine a spotlight on that.”

“Byker Grove will always be very special to us as the show which gave us our break, so we are beyond excited,” he continued.

To quote the producers, “We are looking forward to bringing this fresh incarnation to a whole new generation as well as those who remember it as fondly as we do.”

Newcastle’s Grade II-listed Benwell Towers, where the youth club was filmed, is currently the site of the Islamic school Bahr Academy.
