England plays Chile in the Rugby World Cup. Owen Farrell is back and Marcus Smith starts at full-back.

On Saturday, England will play Chile with an experimental team that has changed a lot. Marcus Smith will start at fullback, and captain Owen Farrell will be back at number 10.

Smith has done well in the role after coming off the bench in recent weeks, including in the Pool D win over Japan.

After being banned for four games, Farrell plays for the first time at France 2023. George Ford is chosen to take over.

Billy Vunipola and Jack Willis are also in the pack, along with Ollie Lawrence, Henry Arundell, and Max Malins.

Lawrence was named the Premiership’s player of the year in May after scoring five tries in 12 games for Bath. He plays in middle with Elliot Daly, who is one of only three players left from the starting lineup that beat Japan.

Wingers Arundell and Malins will play for the first time in the event. Prop Bevan Rodd and second row David Ribbans will also play for the first time.

Hooker up Theo Dan, George Martin in the second row, and Danny Care at scrum-half are also starting for the first time this season.

After beating Argentina and Japan, England would be close to making it to the next round if they beat Chile.

“One of the great things about the Rugby World Cup is that it gives us a great chance to play against teams we don’t often get to see,” said head coach Steve Borthwick before the first game.

“That’s why we’re especially excited to play Chile on Saturday. It will be a good test for us.”

In two weeks, his team will play Samoa in the last game of Pool D. If they win, they could face Wales, Australia, or Fiji in the quarterfinals.

Since England is expected to easily beat Chile, which is the lowest-ranked team in the tournament, the performance of the players may become more interesting than the result as the game goes on.
