Pakistan recovers to escape a shock defeat by the Netherlands in the Cricket World Cup 2023.

Pakistan were bowled out for 286 runs in 49 overs, with Saud Shakeel and Muhammad Rizwan both reaching 68.

The Netherlands reached 120-2 following a strong start to their chase, but were unable to continue after losing four wickets for 38 runs in the middle overs.

Bas de Leede took 4-62 and hit 67, but his efforts were in fruitless as his team was dismissed for 205 all out.

Pakistan had fallen to 38-3 early on, with captain Babar Azam dismissed for five runs, before Shakeel and Rizwan put on a crucial 120-run stand.

De Leede struck twice in the 32nd over to put his team back in contention, before taking two wickets in two balls in the 44th over to end a 64-run partnership between Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz.

In response, Netherlands opener Vikram Singh batted bravely for a half-century, but De Leede struggled for support from the middle and lower order as Pakistan’s veteran bowling attack held firm, led by seamer Haris Rauf’s 3-43, with the Dutch bowled off 41 overs.

The Netherlands play New Zealand on Monday, while Pakistan plays Sri Lanka the following day.
