Snow White from Disney: Has the fairy tale already turned bad?

The famous movie studio’s new version of the 1937 classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which is set to come out next year, has caused a lot of debate on social media.

Even though people have been upset about Disney’s remakes for a long time, the reaction over the new Snow White (the dwarfs have been taken out of the title) has been especially loud.

A lot of the uproar, which has made some TikTokers angry, has been growing over the past few weeks as online talks with Rachel Zegler, who plays the new Snow White, have come back up.

Before that, though, the critics were out in force after Disney said in 2021 that the Latina star had won the title part.

Zegler was targeted by racist trolls on social media, and the ugly discussion has been going on ever since. Last month, Zegler talked about it on X (which used to be Twitter).

“I’m very grateful for the love I feel online from those who support me, but please don’t include me in the nonsense you’re saying about my casting. She wrote, “I really, really don’t want to see it.”

When Halle Bailey got the part of Ariel in The Little Mermaid, she was also called names.

Dr. Robyn Muir, who teaches about media and communications at Surrey University, says that the racism is “very hard” to take.

“I don’t understand why people are so upset about it. Before Aladdin’s Jasmine came out in 1992, people of color didn’t see themselves as Disney princesses.

The hornet’s nest has been stirred up by Zegler’s words about the original Snow White and the direction of the new version.
