The MTV Video Music Awards have been canceled due to the Israel-Gaza conflict.

Because of “devastating events in Israel and Gaza,” the MTV Europe Music Awards have been canceled.

According to the organizers, this was done “out of an abundance of caution.”

“Given the volatility of world events, we have decided not to move forward,” the company said in a statement.

The show was set to take place in Paris on November 5th, and it would feature performances from BTS’s Jung Kook and former Little Mix member Leigh-Anne.

For best artist, Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, SZA, Taylor Swift, and Nicki Minaj were nominated.

The MTV EMAs are described as “an annual celebration of global music,” but “events in Israel and Gaza continue to unfold, this does not feel like a moment for a global celebration,” according to Paramount.

“With thousands of lives lost already, it is a time of mourning.”

“Given the volatility of world events, we have decided not to move forward with the 2023 MTV EMAs out of an abundance of caution for the thousands of employees, crew members, artists, fans, and partners who travel from all corners of the world to bring the show to life.”

On 7 October, Hamas – a group recognized as a terrorist organization by states including the United States and the United Kingdom – launched an unprecedented attack on Israel, murdering 1,400 people and seizing over 200 hostages.

According to Palestinian health officials, at least 3,700 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since Israel initiated retaliatory air attacks.
